Physical Literacy Micro-Grants 2020-2021

“Physical literacy is the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge, and understanding to value and take responsibility for engagement in physical activities for life.” – The International Physical Literacy Association, May 2014

A working group has been established to help increase the Physical Literacy of Islanders. The group is led by Recreation PEI and includes members from Sport PEI, Parasport & Recreation PEI, Special Olympics PEI, the PEI Aboriginal Sport Circle, and the PEI Department of Health & Wellness- Sport, Recreation & Physical Activity Division.

This project has been made possible in part by the Government of Canada and the Government of Prince Edward Island.

A portion of the funding the working group received has been allocated for micro-grants to sport, recreation, community, school, or health groups to deliver physical literacy projects.

Grants are for a maximum of $1,000.

Organizations must be one of the following:Physical Literacy,
• Registered not-for-profit or charitable group
• Municipality
• School group
Early Childhood Centre

Projects must:
• Be completed between September 1, 2020 and March 31, 2021
• Promote physical literacy
• Work to improve the motivation, confidence, or competence of participants so they can be active for life
• Have clear goals that are measurable

Eligible costs include:
• Facility rental
• Equipment
• Promotion
• Leader honorarium
• Other costs as identified (capital costs are not eligible)

After the completion of the project the recipient must provide a report on the outcomes of the project- including photos, videos, testimonials and/or social media posts- and an accounting of the use of the funds. It is expected that recipients will promote Physical Literacy as well as their specific project.
